Halloween Reading: A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness

Happy Halloween! Today is the day we (ok, I) have been waiting for and to celebrate, here is A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness.

Discovery of Witches

The first book of the All Souls Trilogy, A Discovery of Witches is simply wonderful. Diana Bishop, historian and reluctant witch, doesn’t use her magic in hopes of leading a ‘normal’ life. After a brief encounter with an enchanted manuscript, however, creatures start appearing around every turn and it’s not a coincidence. These witches, vampires, and daemons are all after the mysterious book… and the witch who found it. Perhaps the most dangerous and determined of all, the vampire Matthew Clairmont somehow becomes an unlikely ally. All of this is just the first few chapters, so imagine the wonder and awe of the entire book! As a fun addition, the final chapter of the book takes place on Halloween!

On a related note, Deborah Harkness is currently touring! If you’re in my area, she will be in Toronto mid-November. I have been fortunate enough to see her speak and it was great. She’s one of those quiet, brilliant people that is passionate about her work. For more information and future events, check out her website. She is also active on both Twitter and Facebook.

Happy Halloween reading and thank you for sharing in my excitement over the last week.
